When visiting Colusa County during the summer of 2019, Katherine Rutter began to notice who’s stories were the most visible to newcomers. But when staying for the entire summer, Katherine discovered the rich Mexican American culture that made Colusa County interesting, beautiful and delicious. After wandering neighborhoods, and introducing herself to people around town, Katherine was inspired to create imagery brought from the pots of plants and cactuses filling backyard patios, with a line of clothes hanging to dry in the warm summer air.
This mural would not be able to happen without the community support of Davison’s Drug & Stationary. You can find Katherine’s mural on their building, facing the river.
