Social Studies is an experimental collaboration. It is part artist in residence, part public art programming, part collaborative studio, and consistent garden party residing in the backyard of Sierra Reading and Ross Roadruck’s home in Arbuckle, California.

Starting as a dream for Sierra to help better her small hometown, becoming a reality in the summer of 2019, Social Studies is an ongoing project that strives to bring contemporary artists to rural places and spaces within Northern California.

At Social Studies, we can offer you a place to stay, studio space to work, access to land and the potential for cross-collaboration with local businesses and members of the community.

We are open to collaborations, multi-phase projects, and whatever is on your mind.

Collaborations

“A good collaboration produces universal thinking.”

- Robert Rauschenberg

Working alongside residents of Colusa County, we have been able to offer donated studio spaces, mural opportunities, workshop opportunities/spaces, land access and material inspiration.

Feel free to contact us if you are interested in being a Social Studies Partner.
